Citations

When you do research, it is important to cite your sources and give credit to the original author of the text. Below are some basic explanations of how to create Modern Language Association (MLA) citations in the text of your essay and in the Works Cited page at the end of your essay.

In-Text Citations

 

For a Text With an Author

(Author’sLastName  PageNumber)

(Kage 42)

 

The author successfully conveys that "with care and communication everyone is capable of growth" (Kage 42).

*If there is no page number, just put the author’s last name (Kage).

 

For a Text Without an Author

(“ShortenedTitleOfArticle”  PageNumber)

(“Lunar Love" 54)

 

Sometimes the protagonist is "a difficult heroine to root for" (“Lunar Love” 54).

*If there is no page number, just put the title of the article (“Lunar Love”).

For a Database Article
